While the trailer manifest provides detailed package-level shipment data, it is a separate document created later in the shipping process. Therefore, “trailer manifest” is not part of the dispatch list. The list focuses on workflow organization—ensuring personnel know which loads are ready, which are pending, and what exceptions must be handled. CLT emphasizes accurate communication of dispatch data to avoid congestion, missed carrier cut-offs, and inefficient loading.

DOT’s HMR (Hazardous Materials Regulations, 49 CFR Parts 171–180) set out training, packaging standards, and placarding systems used on all transport vehicles. While other agencies oversee workplace safety or environmental issues, DOT specifically governs transportation safety across all modes—truck, rail, air, and vessel.

CLT covers carrier performance metrics. Claims-free shipment percentage reflects the proportion of shipments handled without damage claims filed—i.e., damage incidents. This metric directly measures the reliability and care of handling. On-time arrival/departure measure timeliness, and “distance between accidents” relates more to safety records than damage frequency.

The Packing Manifest , as outlined in CLT’s “Dispatch and Tracking” materials, serves as a summary of the shipment’s contents prepared by the distribution facility. It lists each package, associated orders, and item counts—verifying that all goods scheduled for shipment have been processed and loaded. This document ensures traceability from the warehouse to the carrier. It differs from the Bill of Lading, which governs transport, and from the Bill of Materials, which belongs to production. The manifest functions as an internal control record confirming that all order processing, packing, and labeling steps have been completed according to plan.
