In a Cloud Direct backup environment, CloudBoost handles metadata locally on the appliance while backup data is deduplicated, compressed, encrypted, and sent to the cloud object storage. This separation allows fast access to metadata during restores and efficient management of backups.

When Client Direct is enabled on a client resource, the NetWorker client pushes its deduplicated data stream straight to the AFTD (or DD Boost) device - bypassing the NetWorker storage node entirely - while still sending all control and metadata updates (client file index entries, media database operations, etc.) back to the NetWorker server so it can track and catalog the backup.

By default, the Dell License Server listens on TCP port 27000. When you change it to a non‑default port, you must choose from the range 27000–27009, keeping at least ports 27000 and 27001 open for proper operation.

In current NetWorker versions (9.1 and later), the default Target Sessions setting for a CloudBoost device is 10. This value helps balance load when multiple backup streams are directed to the CloudBoost appliance without imposing a hard cap (that’s what the Max Sessions setting is for).

In the Simulator, do the following:

For successful installation and operation of NetWorker on a Linux system, the presence oflibncursesw(wide-character support for terminal UI) andglibc(the GNU C library) is essential. These libraries are foundational for the functioning of NetWorker’s command-line and daemon processes.

To recover a virtual machine from a save set stored on Dell Cloud Tier, the save set must first be manually staged (mounted) back to a DD Boost device. Cloud Tier data cannot be accessed directly for recovery; it must be recalled to a local DD Boost device to complete the operation.

In the Simulator, do the following:

In the NetWorker Authentication Service, both user names and group names are limited to a maximum of 64 characters. This constraint ensures compatibility and proper functioning within the NetWorker environment. It ' s important to adhere to this limit when creating or managing user and group entries to avoid potential issues.

Client Direct enables NetWorker clients to send deduplicated, compressed, and encrypted backup data directly to the cloud target (via CloudBoost or DDVE) without routing through a storage node. This optimizes performance and reduces bandwidth and storage requirements, making it ideal for cloud backups.
