In current NetWorker versions (9.1 and later), the default Target Sessions setting for a CloudBoost device is 10. This value helps balance load when multiple backup streams are directed to the CloudBoost appliance without imposing a hard cap (that’s what the Max Sessions setting is for).

When you configure a DD Cloud Tier device via the NetWorker Administration GUI, NetWorker removes any existing time‑based policies on the Data Domain MTree and automatically creates an application‑defined (app‑based) data‑movement policy so that the backup application itself controls which backups are cloned to the cloud tier.

The Console Security Administrator role is the only NMC role that can add, delete, and modify NetWorker Authentication Service local‐database users and control user access to managed applications (e.g., NetWorker servers).

For backing up an AIX system to cloud object storage with maximum performance, the recommended approach is to use a CloudBoost appliance. CloudBoost provides optimized deduplication, compression, and encryption, enabling efficient and secure backups from legacy platforms like AIX directly to cloud storage.

After updating the NMC server software, older Java Web Start cache entries on the NMC client may conflict with the updated application. Clearing the Java cache forces the client to download the updated application components from the server, resolving the “Unable to Launch the application” error.

The “Optimized for Performance” backup optimization mode is only supported on Data Domain systems running DDOS 6.0.0.30 (or later) - and if you’re on the 5.7 release train, you must be at least at DDOS 5.7.1. Attempting to enable Performance mode on a DD appliance at plain DDOS 5.7.0 will cause the configuration to fail (or fall back to Capacity mode) with a warning in the logs.

In a Cloud Direct backup environment, CloudBoost handles metadata locally on the appliance while backup data is deduplicated, compressed, encrypted, and sent to the cloud object storage. This separation allows fast access to metadata during restores and efficient management of backups.
