Persistent memory is the resource that RDMA accesses in Exadata X8M.  According to the Oracle website 1 , “Exadata X8M uses RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE) to directly access the persistent memory in storage servers, bypassing the OS, IO, and network software stacks. This reduces IO latency by up to 10X compared to the previous generation of Exadata.”

OCI Block Volumes is the service used by default by the MySQL Database Service to store user data to make it more resistant to failures. OCI Block Volumes provides high-performance block storage volumes that can be attached to MySQL DB systems running on OCI Compute instances. Block volumes are always encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption keys. Block volumes also support backup and restore operations using snapshots or clones that can be used for disaster recovery or testing purposes.

AutoUpgrade is the Oracle recommended way to upgrade databases. According to the Oracle documentation, “AutoUpgrade is an Oracle-supplied tool that automates the upgrade process for Oracle Database releases 12.2, 18c, and 19c. AutoUpgrade can upgrade multiple databases in parallel and can also perform cross-platform migrations. AutoUpgrade is the recommended tool for upgrading your database.”

Signing key fingerprint, API signing key, and tenancy OCID are the information required to connect to the NoSQL Database Cloud Service. According to the Oracle documentation, “To connect your application to Oracle NoSQL Database Cloud Service , obtain your credentials such as the client ID, client secret, and the entitlement ID from the Identity Cloud Service console. After obtaining the credentials, pass the credentials to your application and create tables in Oracle NoSQL Database Cloud Service.” The client ID is also known as the signing key fingerprint, and the client secret is also known as the API signing key. The tenancy OCID is a unique identifier for your Oracle Cloud account.

These are two statements that are true when deciding which Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) region to register an Exadata Cloud@Customer infrastructure in.  According to the Oracle documentation 5 , “When you register an Exadata Cloud@Customer infrastructure in an OCI region, consider any business policies or regulations that preclude the use of a particular region.” This means that you should be aware of any legal or compliance requirements that might limit your choice of OCI regions for Exadata Cloud@Customer.  According to the Oracle documentation 6 , “Consider the physical proximity of the region you register the infrastructure in to your data center. The closer they are physically located, the lower the network latency between them.” This means that you should also consider the network performance and availability when choosing an OCI region for Exadata Cloud@Customer.

ORDS stands for Oracle REST Data Services, which is a Java application that enables developers to access and manipulate data in Oracle Database using RESTful web services.  According to the Oracle documentation 2 , “Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS) bridges HTTPS and your Oracle Database. A mid-tier Java application, ORDS provides a Database Management REST API, SQL Developer Web, a PL/SQL Gateway, SODA for REST, and the ability to publish RESTful Web Services for interacting with the data and stored procedures in your Oracle Database.”

Nosql-keys is not a resource type for NoSQL Database Cloud Service. According to the Oracle documentation, “Oracle NoSQL Database Cloud Service supports three resource types: nosql-tables, nosql-rows, and nosql-indexes. These resource types are used to define policies that control access to NoSQL tables and data.”
