The Information Designer is a tool for setting up data sources and creating and opening information links in Spotfire. An information link is a database query specifying the columns to be loaded and any filters needed to narrow down the data table prior to creating visualizations in Spotfire.  The Information Designer can be accessed from the Tools menu in the main toolbar, but it is only available to users who have been granted a TIBCO Spotfire Information Modeler license 1 .  References :

A treemap visualization is a way of displaying large amounts of hierarchically structured data. The space in the visualization is split up into rectangles that are sized and ordered by a quantitative variable. The treemap in Spotfire uses a squarified algorithm, which means that the rectangles in the treemap range in size from the top left corner of the visualization to the bottom right corner, with the largest rectangle positioned in the top left corner and the smallest rectangle in the bottom right corner. Action controls are components that can be added to a text area to perform various actions when clicked. They can be either links, buttons, or images.  The actions can include opening TIBCO Spotfire tools, applying bookmarks, navigating to a certain page or visualization, executing scripts, or refreshing data functions 1 .  Scripts are custom actions that use the IronPython scripting functionality to automate tasks or extend the functionality of Spotfire 2 .  Images are not a type of action control, but they can be used as the appearance of an action control 1 .  References :  Details on Action Control ,  IronPython Scripting in TIBCO Spotfire

According to the documentation, you can define script parameters for IronPython scripts in action controls and JavaScript parameters when you edit HTML of a text area. The type of parameter can be a simple data type such as a text string, an integer, etc., or it can be a visualization, page or data table in the current analysis. Therefore, visualizations and pages are two valid types of parameters that can be passed to a script.  A Spotfire analysis is saved as a file with the extension  .dxp , which stands for Data eXploration Project. This file contains the data, visualizations, pages, filters, markings, and other settings of the analysis.  TERR functions are a subset of the built-in expression functions in Spotfire that invoke the TERR engine for advanced statistical analysis. You can find them in the Function list of the Custom Expressions or Insert Calculated Column dialog box, under the category Statistical functions. TERR functions have the prefix TERR_ or TERRAggregation_ followed by the Spotfire data type of the output. Comparison circles are a way to display whether or not the mean values for various categories (boxes in the box plot) are significantly different from each other. The circles are drawn with their centers at the mean value for the box to which they correspond. If the circles for different groups do not overlap, the means of the two groups are generally significantly different.
