An upgrade involves taking nodes offline (rebooting) sequentially. When a node goes offline, the cluster relies on the remaining nodes to serve I/O and maintain data redundancy.

If the cluster is already in a Degraded state (e.g., a drive is failed, or capacity is nearly full), taking a node offline could result in Data Unavailable (DU) or Data Loss (DL) .

PowerFlex Manager and the CLI provide " Pre-upgrade Health Checks. " These checks validate:

No active rebuilds or rebalances are running.

All SDS and MDM components are connected and synchronized.

There is sufficient spare capacity to handle a node failure or maintenance mode.

Resetting pools (Option A) creates data loss. Deduplication (Option C) is a feature choice, not an upgrade requirement.

In the PowerFlex role hierarchy, the Monitor role is the standard " Read-Only " role.

Monitor Role: Users with this role can view the dashboard, check configurations, view logs, and monitor performance. However, they cannot make any changes to the system (cannot create volumes, cannot add nodes, cannot change passwords).

Default Context: When discussing " default " security postures or the safest role to assign to auditors or junior staff, Monitor is the correct answer. The " Administrator " has full control, and " Security " manages users. " Read-only user " is a description of the functionality, but Monitor is the specific PowerFlex terminology for the role.

Securing access to the management interface is a critical step in the " Day 0 " or " Day 1 " configuration.

Integrate PowerFlex with LDAP (Option A): For enterprise environments, managing local users on every system is inefficient and insecure. PowerFlex supports integration with Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) servers (like Active Directory). This allows administrators to centralize user management and map Active Directory groups to PowerFlex roles (e.g., Admin, Monitor).

Configure password policies (Option C): For local user accounts (which are necessary for emergency access if LDAP is down), PowerFlex allows the definition of strict password policies. Node-by-node upgrade process (Option A): PFxM automates the tedious sequence: Enter Maintenance Mode Node 1 - > Wait for sync - > Upgrade OS/Firmware/SDS - > Reboot - > Exit Maintenance Mode - > Verify Health - > Move to Node 2.

Monitoring upgrade progress (Option C): PFxM provides a consolidated view of this process. It tracks the status of the job, the percentage complete, and the specific step (e.g., " Flashing BIOS " or " Waiting for Rebalance " ).

Note: Rebalancing (B) is a native function of the MDM/SDS that happens automatically; PFxM waits for it, but the MDM performs it.
